Search For Atlantis Project: 2012 Partial Findings
by: Dr. Greg Little
2012 marks our 10th consecutive year of expeditions in search of Edgar Cayce’s Atlantis. We (my wife Lora and I) have now made over 25 separate trips into the Bahamas, focusing on wide-ranging areas where Edgar Cayce stated in his psychic readings that remnants of Atlantis could be found. We produced four independent documentaries on our findings (covering the period of 2003 to 2010). In addition, we participated in another dozen tv documentaries for a variety of networks. We no longer participate in the tv documentaries, but will produce a new episode for the Forgotten History Series on the 2012 results.
This report covers only a portion of our 2012 results and omits one area of our findings. We are currently having professional geological examinations performed and are engaged in a deep investigation of various written records in search of relevant information before this finding is released. It is anticipated that at the October 26-28 Mid-South Fall Retreat, with the main presenter the A.R.E.’s Executive Director Kevin Todeschi, Dr. Lora Little will make a brief audio-visual report on our new findings. This conference is at the Montgomery Bell State Park Hotel & Conference Center near Nashville. Information on it can be found here: http://www.edgarcayce.org/usa/regions/states.aspx?id=1830
The documentary (on dvd) will be made available shortly after the conference.
August 2012 Expedition
Our team included myself, Dr. Lora Little, Krista Brown, and Eslie Brown. The Browns are native to the Bahamas and have been involved with our explorations since 2004. The August 2012 trip was initially scheduled for 9 days but was cut short a few days by what was then Tropical Storm Irene. However, we were still able to investigate all the sites we had planned. We utilized a new color drop camera video with external lighting and had several other new underwater videocams. Bimini served as our base of operations and we traveled over 100 miles on water for several days. As a side note we stayed in a nearly deserted — and newly renovated — Bimini Big Game Club. (Bimini was nearly devoid of visitors partly because of the closing storm.) The accommodations were good but the service was appallingly bad. Of all the places we have stayed in the Bahamas, this was definitely the worst. It is a sad commentary since the actual accommodation was good.
We utilized Eslie Brown’s fast, 2-engine boat the entire time. The Brown’s are responsible for many of the string of underwater discoveries that have been made in the Bahamas over the past decade. The films shown with this article are brief examples of what we observed.
Focus—With the exception of the specific area already mentioned above (that is being more thoroughly investigated before we release findings) our major areas of interest were as follows. First, we remain interested in crashed planes in the region. Secondly, we wanted to more carefully examine a previously recorded set of marble building ruins located about 7-miles north of Bimini. Third, we wanted to examine an underwater structure located off South Bimini that was previously announced by us. And last, we wanted to re-examine a series of rectangular features located about 5-miles west of Bimini in 100-feet of water.
Findings
Planes: We have found and recorded at least 31 crashed planes with the majority of them underwater. The above brief film gives a good idea how difficult it is to determine the identity of aircraft that crash into the sea. The plane in the film is located about 4 miles to the east of Bimini. Our search has found one definite Bermuda Triangle plane and it’s highly likely that another two have been identified. In addition, on land (southwest Andros) we found two more crashed planes that may well be planes reported missing in the Bermuda Triangle. This information will be included in the new documentary.
Marble Ruins: In 2007 we reported on an intriguing formation of polished white marble that was part of a temple, located 7-miles north of Bimini: http://www.mysterious-america.net/bimini2007.html These ruins are not from Atlantis but were left on the bottom after a ship sank there in a hurricane, supposedly around 1823. We have found that in the 1800’s and 1900’s there were shipments of marble from Italy and other European areas to the states. The vast majority of these shipments were to East Coast ports. We wanted to better understand how vast this pile of marble was and to look at the amount of coral growth. The pile is supposed to be several layers deep but is confined in an area of about 50 feet by 20 feet. In general, there is not much coral or other growth on the marble. If any readers have access to information on marble shipments made through the Bahamas, we would like to know about it.
The Underwater Building Foundation off South Bimini: In 2010 we reported on the discovery of what appeared to be the remains of a building foundation located in shallow water just off South Bimini. Pictures of the formation can be seen near the bottom of this page: http://www.mysterious-america.net/final2010atlanti.html
This odd stone formation was noticed by Eslie and Krista Brown who had been over that area countless times — with the bottom area always being covered by white sand. Storms had shifted the sand uncovering the formation, which we believe had been first reported by Pino Turrola in the 1970s. After seeing it while snorkeling off the shore, Turolla was unable to ever find it again. A filming expedition by the National Geographic in late 2010 obtained samples from the foundation, which were sent to us. The initial examination revealed that the samples were cut beachrock and they were subsequently carbon-dated. The stone was formed around 19,000 B.C. and the A.R.E. issued a press release: http://edgarcayce.org/are/mediaGuidelines.aspx?id=5170
Numerous efforts have been made to the formation since then and it is known that the sides of the walls extend vertically down to several feet. However, sand continues to almost completely cover the structure. In fact, sand dredging at Bimini and to the South of Bimini have scattered more sand in the area than ever seen before. Further examination of this site will require an archaeological team permitted by the Bahamas, however, it is clearly the remains of a building.
The Rectangles: The “Rectangles” is a 200-foot wide swath of mainly flat, sandy bottom (at a depth of 100 feet) running for about a mile in length located about 5-miles off North Bimini at the edge of a deeper drop-off. In essence, these formations are aligned along the 10,000 B.C. shoreline. At this shoreline on the flat bottom are approximately 50 square and rectangular formations ranging in sizes from 10 to 45-feet or so. They have a striking appearance because they are regular in shape (most are square or rectangular), areas of white sand are spaced between them, and they are arranged into three parallel rows on a straight line running for about one mile. Most of them have outer walls, many vertical, that are from 2 to 6-feet high. They were initially seen from the surface (on a computer screen) in an A.R.E. sponsored side-scan sonar project conducted by archaeologist Bill Donato in 2006. The first actual on-site inspection was done by me, Dr. Lora Little, and Eslie Brown in scuba dives in 2009 with The History Channel. The series “Mysteryquest” showed brief footage of the site. On several excursions to the site since then we obtained close-up film of the entire set of formations. They appear to be the remains of some sort of building structures and numerous images on the film show what appear to be building blocks on some of the vertical outer walls. In 2010 on-site research was conducted at several of these rectangular structures by a team from the A.R.E. What was revealed was the presence of typical stone building blocks on the interior along with a few other objects that definitely appear to be human artifacts. Later visits by an A.R.E. team concluded that one of the formations was natural, but this was from a visual interpretation made by floating over this one form.
On this visit we managed to obtain several hours of close-up film of the formations using our drop videocam in poor conditions. Many of the formations are now covered by sand and the sides of the formations have vast piles of sand along their sides giving them a completely natural appearance. Further examination by an archaeological team will be required in order to give a final answer to their origin.
Conclusions
Despite the results outlined in this report, we are highly encouraged by one discovery and will be preparing the new documentary focusing on the results not presented in this preliminary report. The present report is being made because of repeated requests being made to keep specific groups and individuals aware of our findings. Our ability to make examinations on previously discovered sites—including the Bimini Road, the Paradise Point Pier, Proctor’s Road, the Rectangles, the 19,000 B.C. building foundation, and a variety of structures at Andros and Cay Sal—is limited and nothing else can be done at these sites by us. However, a great deal more is to be reported and vast areas remain unexplored.
