AI (artificial intelligence) has taken the evolving world of computer systems technology by storm. Many are confused as to how to use it and how it may change our lives. Some fear it, afraid it will become a threat to humankind, as portrayed in books and movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Terminator, and Ex Machina. Others sing its praises and beneficial potential while the media and fictional portrayals often present potential dire outcomes. Senator Bernie Sanders is concerned that AI and robotics could eliminate millions of jobs, and on June 18th he filed a seven trillion-dollar American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act created to give the public 50% ownership of the largest AI companies in our country. “The future of AI and the fate of humanity must not be decided behind closed doors in Silicon Valley by billionaires seeking to maximize their power and profit,” he was quoted saying. “It must be decided by workers, parents, teachers, artists, scientists, communities and the American people.”
The authors of The Artificial Intelligence Answer Book are well-informed on this subject and its technological implications, its future potentials, dealing with both the concerns and the benefits of this technology, striving to separate fact from hype, answering over 1,300 questions that many people have about AI.
Here are some of those questions:
What are the ethics of artificial intelligence?
How does AI work?
How does AI fail to match human decision-making in certain situations?
How is AI transforming the legal industry?
How do self-driving cars use AI to navigate?
How could quantum computing revolutionize AI research and development?
How can superintelligent AI be controlled or governed to prevent potential harm?
