Ray Pollock's [of Gulf Breeze) son was driving in the desert out west in a very dark area at night. He noticed some lights in the sky and stopped his car to get out for a better look. He walked into the sandy desert area for about 100 yard or so and into a silent area. He did not hear any normal desert noises. He could see fine, but it was as if he walked into a sound proof area of the desert. A few minutes later, he begins to walk back to his car when suddenly he could hear the desert noise again.
One night, many, many moons ago, like the late 1990s, around 11:30 p.m., I was in my home, in my seond floor office writing and researching. I decided to go downstairs, out the back door, and onto the deck to smoke a cig. I lit my cig in the house right before going out the door. I shut the door, walked about 5 steps onto the deck when I noticed that I was in a totally dark void that covered the entire deck to about 10 or 12 feet above me. I could see absolutely nothing, not even the red glow of my burning cig. I felt very disoriented, not knowing in which direction I was facing, and confused about why this was happening.
Above the 10 to 12 feet, I could see the top of the trees in the woods behind my home, but it was like looking through three pairs of black women's stockings. I could also see the full moon above and to the left of me.
My deck was shaped like the letter “P” laying on its side, and I wanted to go inside but did not know which way to walk, and I had to be careful because there was a Hackberry tree growing up through a hole in the deck used for shade in the summer time, and a hot tub sitting inside a hole in the deck with the top rim about 4 inches above the deck floor. Also there were stairs leading off my deck. I then remember being able to look up and see past the black void at a higher level, and I could see the light from my office window that overlooked the deck. I slowly walked with my arms outstretched and finally touched the brick wall, and then moved to the right, found the unlocked door and walked back into the house. Sherrie had gone to bed between 10:30 and 11 p.m. As soon as I closed the door I forgot all about the dark void and went back up to my office.
About an hour later I went outside to smoke another cig and everything was fine, and I remembered the black void. I wanted to kick myself in the ass for forgetting what I had experienced just an hour earlier. I then wrote the experience in my diary.
Six months later, I was re-reading my diary, which I would do every so many months, to where I had stopped reading six months earlier. I got to the part of seeing the full moon and something didn't seem right with this. I pulled out my almanac and looked up the moon cycle for that date. The moon cycle showed there was no moon visible for that particular day.
