This book's author has a Ph.D in physical biology from Sweden's University of Stockhom and, considered a leading authority on the Mayan Calendar, he has written such works as “The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness” and “The Purposeful Universe.” In this latest book, “The Global Mind and the Rise of Civilization,” Dr. Calleman examines the historical evolution and rise of civilization in conjunction with the ancient Mayan Calendar, finding intriguing parallels in hauntingly near identical stages of development, as with the construction of pyramids and the creation of similar symbols like the Tree of Life, as well as the appearance of written languages, mathematics and art, that occurred in diverse corners of the globe around similar time periods.
The author explores the implications for such historical patterns by further examining a variety of factors, from a kind of collective unconsciousness as Dr. Carl Jung had envisioned sometime back, to quantum physics, the paranormal, geophysics, and the neuroscience and philosophical distinctions and aspects regarding the classic brain versus mind debate. His concept of a global mind, a holographic consciousness, that taps into the Earth's crystalline inner core itself is certainly thought-provoking and resonates in ways with what other authors and researchers are considering these days too.

Canadian author William F. Mann, the Grand Archivist of Canada's Knights Templar, a descendent of Prince Henry Sinclair and the Anishinabe/Algonquin Indian tribe, is perhaps in a unique position, with more motivation than most, to explore the controversial historical details of the presence of the Knights Templar in the New World well before the arrival of Christopher Columbus. Mann describes how the Templars had secret settlements across the early North American landscape, and had even taken refuge in the Sacred Medicine Lodges of the Algonquins, pointing out how some of their ceremonies and rituals had close resemblances to the initiations of Freemasonry. The author even claims that there is a Templar treasure, still supposedly buried somewhere here in North America, and that a search for ancient Templar sanctuaries was the main reason behind the famous Lewis and Clark expedition, and in fact the reason behind the murder of Meriwether Lewis.
