Pre Arnold close encounters and High-Strangeness: part 4

Hello everyone, this is my fourth installment out of five, of the Pre-Arnold weirdness, enjoy:
Little people in upstate New York?
Location: Lackawack, New York
Date: Winter 1929
Time: night
In an area south of the Roundout Reservoir “Bud Landis” was walking home one night after visiting a friend who lived a mile away. A full moon was just rising over the hills, and a slight chill filled the evening air. As the moon became fully exposed, its illumination bathed the surrounding countryside in soft light. As Bud strolled along, he noticed a strange stillness in the air. An eerie silence. As he walked briskly down the dirt road, the surrounding woods seemed to close in from all directions. Glancing to his left, Bud saw a weird light coming from among the trees. It seemed to pulsate and was near the ground. Thinking the moon might be reflecting off something shiny, Bud continued on. Ultimately curiosity got the best of him. He stepped off the road and moved in among the trees. After stumbling through the thick underbrush for some ten yards, Bud came upon a sight that froze him in his tracks. Before him was a dome-shaped, yellow-green, translucent light. It measured about four feet across and some eighteen inches high. Bud thought perhaps the phenomenon might have been caused by some unknown fungus growing within the radius of the circle. He examined the earth beneath but found nothing unusual. Suddenly the glow intensified, and Bud dived for cover behind the brush. From his place of concealment, he saw two small men a foot high, slowly materialize within the light. They seemed to sense his presence and looked directly at him. Bud jumped backwards, stumbling over his own feet and fell. A second later both little men leaped back within the glow and they and the light suddenly vanished. Bud was quite shaken by the weird experience and sat for a while to regain his thoughts before leaving. Close encounter by the lake:

Location. Pestovskiy area, Novgorod Region, Russia
Date: August 1929
Time: daytime
17-year -old Anna Petrovna Poletayeva was walking on a road on her way to visit her parents. The road passed next to Gusevskoye Lake and as she glanced at the lake, she noticed a flying craft hovering above the lake. The object was round, small, without wings. Its lower part was yellow reddish in color, resembling copper. The upper part was a glassy cupola. The glass from the cupola was joined to the lower part by large “copper” bolts. The UFO hovered about 15 meters above the water. Anna could see two small sized “people” inside the glassy cupola---one male and the other female. They were dressed in gray tight-fitting suits. Both were smiling, looking at the witness. Their faces were very much like ordinary humans. Feeling initial fear, she panicked and ran from the area, stumbled and injured her elbow. Anton Anfalov
Landing or Marian Apparition?
Location: Roccagloriosa, Salerno, Italy
Date: Summer 1929
Time: 1400
A girl was working in a field when she looked up and saw a stationary ball of white light in the sky. This then descended vertically, stopping just a few centimeters above the ground. While descending the ball greatly dimmed creating a sort of “opening” in the center of the sphere. After 5 or 10 seconds, a female figure emerged from the opening wearing sumptuous black garments, “like those from the 19th century.” Inside of the ball, 2 or 3 small beings moved slowly and peered outward. The female figure walked toward the witness, without her feet touching the ground. Thereafter, she turned left and was lost in some trees. The girl was frightened and made the sign of the cross. She then ran to call her father. When he arrived at the landing site, he smelled the fragrance of roses.

Comments: Indeed, a bizarre case combining elements of alien encounters and Marian apparitions.
Little people in Airplane?
Location: Hertford, England
Date: 1929
Time: morning
A sister, 5, and brother, 8, were playing in the garden one morning. At that time the road was a lane, with just two pairs of houses, one of which was theirs, and behind the houses there was an orchard. As they played, they heard the sound of an engine. Years later the sister would liken it to a quiet version of a trainer plane. Her brother and her looked up and saw, coming over the garden fence from the orchard, this small aeroplane (biplane type) which swooped down and landed briefly, almost striking a dustbin. It remained there for possibly just a few seconds and then took off and was gone, but in that short the girl had a perfect view of the tiny biplane but also of a perfectly proportioned tiny pilot wearing a leather flying helmet, who waved to them as he took off. Neither she nor her brother spoke of the strange sight until years later. She estimated the wingspan of the tiny aircraft at no more than 12-15 inches, with the tiny pilot in perfect proportion thereto.

Peeping Tom aliens:

Location: Bolton, Lancashire, England
Date: Early November 1928
Time: evening
A young boy, Henry Thomson, playing with a gang of friends was running through a dark alley when he saw in the backyard of a house three strange figures peering into a lighted living room. The central figure was the tallest; it turned and looked at the witness. He mumbled at the other two and they all turned. A wide black eyepiece divided down the center by a ribbed silver piece covered the face of the tall entity. All three appeared to be wearing inflatable rubber suits with dark boots. On their heads were transparent dome-like helmets. Tubes came from these and joined tanks that were on their backs. They had pale heads shaped like light bulbs, slit-like eyes, scarcely any nose, and no visible mouth. One made a strange noise, and all three began to move toward the boy. He ran away from the area in terror.

Pixies in Dispute?

Location: Garston, Liverpool, Merseyside, England
Date: August 1928
Time: evening
A terrified elderly couple on Whitehedge Road, looked through their net curtains, watching two men the size of children with green skin and pointy ears argue outside their home one evening. The figures swore at one another, using “shocking coarse language” and then one of the little green men stabbed the other three times with a dagger. A car approached and the oddities ran off. Other people saw them that evening. The next evening around 20:50 the old couple saw the same two weird figures laughing and dancing, before running off when a policeman approached on his beat.

Encounter at the seashore

Location: Ventanas de Quintero, Loncura, Chile
Date: January 20, 1927
Time: 03:00 a.m.
The lone witness was traveling through the area and had just passed by the Naval Base at Quintero. He was in a Ford pickup truck and was keeping on a route very close to the water. However, when high tide came in, he was stranded and was forced to wait out at the highest point on the beach. As he rested half asleep on a small sand dune, he was suddenly startled by the presence of a strange figure standing in front of him. Terrified and curious at the same time the witness stared fascinated at the strange figure. He described the strange figure as a little more than 1 meter in height, his body, including his head, were covered in an impenetrable metallic opaque metallic mesh, and where the face would have been there was a sort of mask with a circular aperture which shone with a pale light, similar to the light emitted by modern day computer monitors. The witness then heard a very soft voice which said, “Don’t be afraid of me. I won’t hurt you. Twenty meters from here I have my ship where my friend is waiting for me. We could take you with us, but we don’t want to. We have known about the earth for over 1 million years. We come from a planet which is close to earth, but we live in its interior, and we possess scientific knowledge that humans are not capable of understanding yet. However, we are unable to predict the future since it all depends on the workings of many different minds. We visit the earth at all times since it is not difficult for us to do so. However, we cannot live on the Earth. The rays from the sun alone would kill us”.
The alien continued talking, “We do not have eyes, or ears, but we have very special knowledge and skills. Our nourishment is all based on ‘nuclear energy’ - the same energy that your scientists are now recently researching and is based on the atom. What is called the brain for you, for us is just special cells which are able to connect to billions of other cells and archived memory which has been formed and collected throughout thousands of millions of years. We lack any emotions or passions. We are not really interested in studying anything about humans or knowing too much about your planet for various reasons. If we travel to the earth, we do it mostly at night and avoid contact with the sun. We are only five thousand in number and only reproduce through chemical means and using special females of our species. The ship you see behind us uses atomic energy in combination with magnetic attraction to travel between the planets.”
Terrified, the witness just stared at the entity unable to move. Once he looked down to the alien’s feet and noticed these square and shiny metallic in appearance structures, the creature’s arms were also very short. From its belt area the creature took out a sort of rolled out tape and placed it on the ground in front of the witness and then walked back to its ship. Before entering the object he turned around and said, “Don’t try to follow us. We travel at light speed.” Once the alien had entered the craft a soft glow within the object started getting brighter and brighter. There was no sound. He was able to see that the craft was somehow cylinder shaped and was emitting a bright blue-violet light from each end. In seconds it disappeared from sight. Terrified he ran to his truck and attempted to drive away forgetting that it was high tide. At this point, the witness remembered the small tape-like device left on the sand by the creature. But it had been apparently washed away by the high tide.

Springheel Jack?

Location: Bierley, near Bradford, West Yorkshire, England
Date: mid-September 1926
Time: various
The mysterious white-clad figure appeared to have moved to this location where he took to peering through windows, standing in the shadows, and knocking on doors, only to vanish when confronted. Bierley had a reputation of being haunted and many thought the figure in white was the ghost returned. The residents of Bierley, like their counterparts in Bradford took to the street with sticks, dogs, and guns. After a few nights in Bierley the entity traveled a few miles up the valley to Bingley, again to lurk in shadows, leaping at a passersby and then vanishing into nothing. The police were out in force, but the culprit, if it were a flesh and blood culprit, could not be found. A Mr. Whitehead saw the entity “flapping its wings” on the canal bank and was of the opinion that “he wore a white cover in front of him and immediately his appearance was seen, wrapped it up, put it in his pocket and scampered off.” He may have been right, but no one could scamper fast enough to catch him.

Landing in Sweden
Location: Abyggeby, Ockelbo, Sweden
Date: September 20-30, 1925
Time: 6:00 a.m.-6:30 a.m.
On an early Sunday morning the 8-year-old witness had gotten up and gone out into the surrounding area near his home when he found himself on a small country lane. He had no definite goal. It was already bright, and the weather was fine. When he came down to a bridge that crossed a creek, he looked up out over the area and saw something reminiscent of two deep saucers facing each other. This phenomenon was big as a car and blackish gray in color, stood on four legs in a field, which a few days earlier had been harvested for potatoes.
He doesn’t know how long he watched the strange object when he saw something that looked like a rope ladder being hauled into a gap in the craft. The legs were retracted and the ring that went around the object began rotating around faster and faster, and the craft rose slowly to the side with a faint whirring noise. He did not see any living creatures. He was then seized by a strange fear and felt uncomfortable. He ran quickly home and told his parents what he had seen but was met with skepticism. He also spoke about it to his best friend and her mother but was ridiculed.

The Underground Lilliputians, Texas:

Location: La Feria, Texas
Date: Summer 1925
Time: night
One night after a rainy day, the streets were filled with puddles and the night was calm when three brothers came out and played on the streets since it was during the summer vacation, so they were allowed to play late at night. They were playing a game that involved running and playing with the water puddles. After several hours of playing, the brothers just sat down on the edge of the street talking and laughing and telling jokes since they were tired of running. All of a sudden, one of the boys spotted some moving creature at the other end of the street close to an underground sewer tunnel. He said there were like 5 small creatures. The brothers decided to “lynch” the creatures with rocks but when they got close to the creatures to their surprise they were not rats, instead they were small people no more than 8 inches high.
To be exact, their sizes were the size of an elf on a shelf Christmas doll. They started to speak in an unknown language between them. Only one creature spoke their language telling the brothers something. The boys wanted to join them in whatever game they were playing but one of the creatures spoke in an unknown language, something that the boys could not understand. The only creature that spoke their language told the boys that they wanted to join the playing, but they were not allowed to play with them since they lived underground. They were apparently not allowed to “mix with humans.” The creatures told the boys that they had been living underground for thousands of years and once in a while every few hundreds of years they would surface from underground to “see how things were on the surface.” After a while, the small creatures said goodbye and returned back to their underground world, never to be seen again.
