Michael Newton, a resident of California, is a prolific writer with 279 books under his belt since 1977. A long time cryptozoology buff since childhood, ten times he has visited Scotland’s famed Loch Ness, though he has yet to personally have his own sighting of the legendary “Nessie.” In the last issue of this magazine, I interviewed Newton about his writing career and research into Bigfoot, Mothman, Nessie, and the whole bizarre world of crypto critters.

Here in America, if you wanna look for cryptozoological anomalies, then the Mountain State of West Virginia that gave us Mothman, the Flatwoods Monster, and a cat with wings certainly does seem like a very good place to begin your search. As you’ll find in reading through this heavily and beautifully produced pictorial book, Strange West Virginia Monsters, it goes from fairly natural and mild to absolutely bizarre and wild. You’ll read about and even see pictures and illustrations of out-of-place critters like alligators, piranha, octopus, black panthers, kangaroos, to out-of-this-world monsters like Mothman, “dogman”, a horned “sheepsquatch,” Bigfoot, the so-called Flatwoods Monster, and much more. This book also contains fascinating reports of giant human skeletal remains being uncovered there.

Both entertaining and informative, I highly recommend this book.
